Mahrasa Monastery

The Mahrasa Monastery (also known as the Charek Monastery) is a historical religious complex situated on the left bank of the Shamkir River in the mountainous region of the Gadabay District. Originally a center of Caucasian Albanian culture and religion during the 12th century, some sources associate it with an ancient "Moon Temple" due to its name, suggesting its potential roots as an ancient site for celestial or fire worship prior to its use as a Christian monastery. Due to its remote location, the site is often reached via scenic hiking trails like the Amirvar – Mahrasa Temple route.
