We leave Baku at dawn for Shamkir, where German families from Württemberg founded the Annenfeld colony in 1818 — tidy stone houses, quiet streets, and a Lutheran church whose interior was brought piece by piece from Germany. From there the road climbs to Gadabay past the Shir-Shir waterfall, an ancient Albanian temple, and preserved German houses, ending with samovar tea in a village home in Gumlu. Day two belongs to the mountains: the 1879 Siemens Bridge, locally known as the "Bloody Bridge", the Zingirovlu stone bridge above the Shamkirchay, an off-road UAZ ride along the river, and a picnic with Gadabay potatoes, farm cheese, and Musa's own honey tasting. In summer it is around 23°C here while Baku sits at 32°C.
